As the name of my site implies, art is my second act. In 2013, after spending 30 years in the education business, I decided it was time to retire. It didn't take long until I figured out that I couldn't fill my time with reading, trying new recipes, and crocheting and I needed to find something to do. I was lucky and found my dream retirement job as an administrative assistant in the music department at a local university. I say dream job because it allowed me to come full circle - I had received my bachelor's degree in music education there and it felt like coming home.
I have always been a "crafty" person - learning to knit, crochet, sew, do calligraphy and many other things since childhood. I had also taken some painting classes, mostly folk art, long ago before marriage and children, but that fell to the wayside while working and taking care of family. Once retired, I wanted to start painting again and started looking for classes. The Arkansas Arts Center is not far from my home and I signed up for beginning oil painting. That began my Second Act. I have since taken drawing classes at our university (free when you are 60+) and watercolor lessons. I fell in love with watercolors and, as you can see, that is my medium of choice.
I hope you enjoy my work! If you are interested in purchasing a piece or have questions please feel free to contact me at carolholtebinger@gmail.com. This website will always be a work in progress so check in often for new work!
